You can use a square cake pan and cut out the shape of a star. Use tip 21 to pipe stars around the outside bottom border in blue then a strip of white stars then finish with red stars for the top border. Use the tip of an ice cream cone to create the base of the firework in the center and floral wire with star tip to create stars along the wire for the firework effect.

Believe it or not... this Uncle Sam is really an Upside Down Flower Pot Cake!

Ice "flower" are of cake and sides smooth (build up icing to create straight sides). Pipe tip 21 elongated shell hair, mustache, eyebrows, and beard. Pipe top 10 dot eyes and nose, string mouth (pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Cover hat with tip 21 stars in alternating red and white rows. This little Sam is acutally a small loaf cake or can be made from pound cake.

Ice sides and top of cake smooth with white icing. Ice face area smooth in light copper icing. Use serrated edge of tip 48 to pipe alternating red/white stripes on hat. Pipe tip 48 stripe for hat brin; overpipe. Pipe tip 4 dot nose and eyes (smooth both with finger dipped in cornstarch). Add tip 16 to pull out star eyebrows, hair, moustache and beard.

You can create this cake by baking a rectangle cake then cut out the stick from the top of your cake to create the waves in the stick and the flag. Decorate and you have a really fun treat.
